The Pony

by Vivien Wade

I am a little horse,
who never will be tall,
For I’m a Shetland pony,
bred to be small.

I live with other horses,
where I am stabled,
The work I do is called
“riding for the disabled”.

I can carry little children,
because I am so small,
My nature is very gentle,
would never let them fall.

Most children need help,
to be placed upon my back,
As I lead them carefully,
around the circular track.

Some are afraid,
riding me removes their fears,
To hear all their laughter,
is music to my ears.

I'm sure these children,
are excited as can be,
Waiting for their next visit,
to come and ride on me.
