Bereavement Poems

Goodnight Dad

by Richard John Scarr

Goodnight Dad. God keep you safe,
until we meet again.
You have left a space no one can fill.
And loving hearts so full of pain.

Though you didn't often say it.
We just took your love as read.
For we knew we were your very all.
You always showed what wasn't said.

We never knew a day of want.
And you kept us safe in every way.
You nurtured and protected us,
and made us what we are today.

And now we have to come to terms
with the fact that you are gone.
Tomorrow will start without you.
And all tomorrows from now on.

Dad, we'll really miss you,
in oh, so many ways.
And though you can't share our tomorrows.
You gave us all such treasured yesterdays!
